Manfrotto PL-3N1-36 Pro Light Camera/Drone Backpack Review

Introduction

Equipment Used, Roomy Interior
Clever Features
Backpack harness, Separate Raincover, Accessories Pouch
In Use
Internal Compartment
Zipper System
Top Handle
Stitching Issues, Conclusion

Equipment Used

I will be basing my opinions with consideration to the following equipment;

  • Canon 5D Mark III DSLR Camera with a Canon 24-70mm f2.8 II L lens
  • Panasonic GH5 Mirrorless Camera body with a Viltrox EF-M2 M43 Lens Adaptor
  • Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM Lens
  • DJI Mavic Pro Drone, Controller, 2 batteries, spare propeller set
  • TACO-RC Multi-Coating MC ND Filters for the DJI Mavic Pro Drone
  • Creative Roar Pro portable bluetooth speakers
  • Travel Tripod
  • Selfie Stick

Roomy Interior

The backpack is large in size and is slightly bigger than the Lowepro Protactic 450 AW Camera Backpack. Its cube like shape allows for maximum use of space and gives the ability to sit upright or on its back or front when placed on the ground.

Manfrotto PL-3N1-36 Camera backpack filled with gear image.

Even with the equipment listed, there were still room for additional items which could be accessories like lens blower, lens pen, ND or Polarizer lens filters, action camera, light clothing like a shirt, socks, etc.

Manfrotto PL-3N1-36 Camera backpack laptop compartment.

The Manfrotto Pro Light 3n1-36 Camera backpack can house at least a 15 inch laptop and possibly greater as there was ample room when storing a 13 inch Macbook Pro.

Review Summary

Reviewer:

Positives:

Light backpack; generous size; nice material; sits upright; good padding on dividers, back support and harness; hide-away shoulder strap ends and tripod strap; monopod attachment...

Negatives:

Poor Stitching in important areas; no sternum strap; buckles locking issues; not within carry-on specs; poor implementation of top handle, zippers, dividers, tripod sleeve...

Summary:

A good looking backpack that looks well designed and well built from the surface but after closer inspection, the backpack has many flaws that I would not have expected from a brand such as Manfrotto at this price range. The backpack seems to be based on a familiar core design but somehow it has not managed to improve on it effectively with its attempt on clever features and functionality.
